Growing concerns over the worsening drinking water crisis in Nahan town prompted Sirmaur MLA Ajay Solanki to inspect the damaged main pipeline of the Giri Lift Drinking Water Scheme on Thursday. The supply disruption, caused by extensive damage to the pipeline, has left the town struggling with acute water shortage for the past several days.

During the inspection, it was found that the pipeline has been damaged at nearly 25 locations. Continuous rainfall has softened the soil and caused frequent land subsidence, making the pipeline vulnerable to repeated breakages. This has deepened the water crisis in the district headquarters. Officials of the Jal Shakti Department said repair work is being carried out on a war footing and the pipeline will be tested by Friday evening. Authorities are hopeful that water supply in Nahan will be restored to normal soon.

As an interim relief measure, around 35 lakh litres of water are being supplied to residents from alternative schemes. MLA Solanki directed officials and staff of the Jal Shakti Department to work towards a permanent solution without delay.
