MLA Thakur slams state govt over officers’ safety concerns
Former Industry Minister and BJP MLA from Jaswan Pragpur, Bikram Thakur, has criticised the state government for failing to protect administrative officers working in high-risk areas. He stated that these officers play a crucial role in implementing government schemes and combating illegal activities such as drug trafficking and mining. However, their morale had been severely impacted due to the government’s negligence.
Thakur highlighted a series of incidents, starting with the transfer of Baddi SP Ilma Afroz and culminating in the recent attack on Mandi SDM. He accused the government of being a “mute spectator” and showing no serious concern over these issues.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s controversial remark that IAS and IPS officers are not needed in the state, Thakur condemned the government’s stance, asserting that these officials are the backbone of administration. He stressed that without their support, the fight against crime and mafia activities would be impossible.
He pointed out that SDMs and administrative officers in sensitive areas like Baddi, Nalagarh, and Amb constantly face threats while cracking down on illegal mining and crime. Despite this, their requests for security have been ignored. Thakur specifically mentioned Baddi SDM Vivek Mahajan, who has repeatedly sought a personal security officer but has been denied protection by the government.
“In an industrial hub like Baddi, where illegal activities are rampant, officers working without security are putting their lives at risk,” Thakur said. He warned that if incidents like the attack in Mandi continue to be overlooked, it will severely impact the entire administrative system.
The BJP leader emphasised that when administrative officers themselves do not feel safe, their ability to protect the public is compromised. He demanded immediate security for officers in high-risk areas to ensure law and order are maintained without fear or external pressure.
Thakur also declared that the BJP would not remain silent on this issue. If the government fails to provide adequate security to officials, the party will raise the matter in the Assembly and take to the streets in protest.
