MLA urges students to conserve nature, steer clear of addiction

The 18th Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony was held with great enthusiasm at Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Government College, Dharampur, Mandi, yesterday. The chief guest at the event was Chander Shekhar, MLA of Dharampur, who inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

During his address, the MLA extended his best wishes to the students for their bright future and acknowledged the tireless efforts of parents and teachers in shaping their lives. He said, “It is a matter of great pride for the parents to witness their children receiving awards at such a prestigious event.”

The MLA honoured meritorious students and encouraged them to understand human values, set goals, and prepare to face environmental challenges in the future. He also urged them to steer clear of addiction. The MLA presented awards to students who excelled in academics and co-curricular activities during the 2024-25 session. Additionally, students who participated in the Rajbhasha Hindi Fortnight at Gaiety Theater in Shimla were also recognised. Awards were given to students involved in NCC, NSS, Eco Club, Road Safety Club, Youth Red Cross, and Red Ribbon Club. Students who participated in sports and cultural activities were also honoured, along with those who took part in the inter-college volleyball competition.

The MLA praised the college staff for adopting local schools and contributing to the advancement of education in the region. He also announced that postgraduate courses in Hindi and history would soon be introduced at the college. Furthermore, he assured that the remaining work for beautifying the college playground would be completed soon.

MLA Shekhar highlighted the significance of Artificial Intelligence and expressed concern over environmental changes. He urged everyone to contribute towards environmental conservation.

Earlier, Principal Dr Ramesh Chand Dhalaria expressed his gratitude to the MLA for attending the event and presented the annual prize report to the chief guest. Students also presented various cultural performances, adding to the vibrancy of the ceremony. The event proved to be a significant step in promoting excellence in education, culture, and social service at the college.
