MLAs can attend Vidhan Sabha panel meetings online: Speaker

Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania today said the members of various Assembly committees will now have the option to join meetings online.
Presiding over a meeting of the Chairpersons of Committees in the Vidhan Sabha, Pathania said just as technology was constantly developing, it was necessary for them to be practical and make its best possible use.
“The online facility to join meetings will also solve the problem of quorum of the committee and the work will be undertaken more efficiently,” he said.
He said the online facility for joining the Vidhan Sabha committee meetings will bring about efficiency. He clarified that only those members who are personally present in the meeting in the Vidhan Sabha Secretariat will be eligible for travelling allowance. The Speaker said most MLAs were busy attending to people in their constituencies so joining the meetings online will be convenient for them.
Pathania said discussions were held today to strengthen the working of the committees and to make their work more comprehensive, practical and logical.
During the meeting, the functions and activities of the committee from April 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024 were discussed.
Pathania suggested to the chairpersons that they need to make the members realise the committee’s importance and responsibilities so that they take interest in it.
He requested the committee members to participate in the meetings and understand its seriousness.
In the meeting, the chairpersons of all committees presented their views and expressed their opinion on changes required. The meeting was also attended by Chairman, Public Accounts Committee, Anil Sharma; Chairman, Public Enterprises Committee and Human Development Committee, Bhawani Singh Pathania; Chairman, Local Public Accounts and Public Administration Committee, Sanjay Rattan; Chairman, Subordinate Legislation and Privileges Committee Vinay Kumar; and Chairman, Rural Planning Committee Kewal Singh Pathania.
