The Central Government, led by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, was empowering women in the country and had started various programmes for their welfare.

This was stated by Member of Parliament Indu Goswami while addressing women at a function organised at Laleen village in the district near here today. She said progammes like “Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao”, “Poshan Abhiyan”, ban on triple Talaq, Nirbhaya funds and reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were some initiatives that would help empower women in the country. She added that PM was constantly striving to strengthen Nari Shakti, adding that the participation of women was increasing in every field now.

Lambasting the state government, Indu said the Congress government in the state, led by Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, had betrayed women. She added that women were duped by the Congress government with the promise of giving them Rs 1,500 during the election campaign.

She said the state was reeling under financial mismanagement and people were facing various problems and poor governance. She appreciated Ashish Sharma MLA for organising the Women’s Day programme.

Speaking on the occasion MLA Ashish Sharma said the importance of women in life was vital. He said women were mentors of men in the form of mother, sister and wife. He said PM Modi had taken many decisions for women empowerment and had ensured women’s contribution in nation building. He said it was only because of the bold leadership at the Centre that a woman was occupying the post of the President of the country. He added that now a woman was the Chief Minister of Delhi, proving that the BJP was committed to women empowerment.

On this occasion, Ashish Sharma honoured about 130 women, including two girls, by giving them Rs 1.5 lakh each under Sukanya Samridhi Yojana for poor girls.

A 106-year-old woman Mansa Devi of Nara Panchayat was also felicitated on the occasion.

MLA Badsar Indradutt Lakhanpal appealed to women that if the drug menace was to be eradicated from the state, women had to play an important role. He added that only women could reform their children and keep youths away from drugs.
