Monsoon arrives, Palampur wettest with 110 mm rainfall

Widespread rain lashed Himachal Pradesh today. Parts of Mandi and Kangra districts experienced heavy rains, as the southwest monsoon hit the state five days in advance — the normal date of the arrival of the monsoon is June 29.
Palampur was the wettest in the state with 110 mm rain while Jogindernagar, Baijnath and Dharamsala received 96 mm, 93 mm and 92 mm rain, followed by Gaggal 87 mm , Shimla 37 mm, Sarahan and Kumarsein 33 mm, Nagrota Surian 31 mm, Kothi 28 mm, Jubbarhatti 27 mm, Dalhousie and Kharaptthar 25 mm, Salooni 21 mm, Mandi and Kufri 26 mm and Keylong 20 mm.
The state received 59.9 mm average rainfall from June 1 to June 24, a deficit of 25 per cent, but Kangra and Una districts received 10 per cent and 13 per cent excess rain. The MeT office has predicted above normal rainfall this year.
The MeT office has issued a yellow alert of heavy rainfall, thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds blowing with a speed of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places in middle hills tomorrow and predicted rain and thundershowers in mid and lower hills over the next six days from tomorrow.
