Restoration work on rain-damaged roads in the Seraj region of Mandi district is progressing steadily, even four months after the devastating monsoon disaster that caused extensive damage across Himachal Pradesh. The Public Works Department (PWD) has managed to restore the majority of the roads in the Seraj valley, while maintenance and strengthening work continue at several critical points.

According to officials, the road connecting the Seraj valley from the Pandoh side suffered major damage at a few locations. Restoration work, including the construction of retaining walls and slope stabilisation, is currently underway. Despite the partial damage, transportation services on this route were resumed much earlier, ensuring relief and connectivity for residents.

In Daizy village, where road connectivity was badly affected, the PWD has now completed restoration work, allowing smooth vehicular movement. Similarly, road connectivity to Anah panchayat, which remained cut off after the heavy rains, has been successfully re-established. These developments have brought much-needed relief to local communities that had been struggling with isolation since the disaster.

PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh said the department’s maintenance and restoration work in flood-affected areas, including the Seraj region, are in full swing. He emphasised that the majority of damaged roads were reopened to traffic soon after the rain disaster, reflecting the government’s prompt response. “The state government is committed to ensuring better road infrastructure for the people of Himachal Pradesh and consistent efforts are being made in this direction,” the minister added.

Highlighting the department’s broader achievements, Singh said it was a matter of pride for the Himachal Pradesh Public Works Department that the state has received approval for Rs 2,271 crore for the construction and improvement of 294 roads. Through these projects, approximately 1,538 km of the state’s road network will be strengthened, benefiting remote and rural areas.

“This milestone reflects our collective efforts and unwavering commitment to the holistic development of the state. As we move forward with the construction of these 294 roads, it signifies not just an expansion of physical infrastructure but also a step towards better connectivity, employment generation and empowerment of the rural economy,” Singh remarked.

The ongoing restoration in Seraj and other affected regions showcases the government’s determination to rebuild stronger and ensure that no area remains cut off due to natural calamities.
