Monuments of ASI closed to visitors

All temples, forts, and monuments in Kangra valley including the famous Kangra Fort looked after by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) have been closed for visitors to check huge gatherings and curb the spread of Covid scare.

Kangra has always been a centre of cultural and archaeological importance and Kangra Fort is one of the oldest forts in Northern India. However, the site spotted a deserted look today following its closure.

The present season being the peak season is associated with Chaitra Navratri which is scheduled to start from March 25. Hence, people in large numbers visit the site but now the entry has been banned.

ASI sources today said in Kangra valley monuments which were closed due to the Covid scare included Kangra Fort, Masroor Rock Temple, Shiva Temple in Baijnath, Ashapuri Temple and Elgin Tomb in McLeodganj. The sources said these monuments were open for the ASI employees, however, were closed for the visitors. — OC
