Moral values, job-oriented education a must for success in life: Speaker

The Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, on Wednesday said that moral values and employment-oriented education were essential for success in life. He was chief guest at the annual prize distribution function held at Government Senior Secondary School at Hatli in the Bhattiyat Assembly segment.

Pathania, while addressing students, teachers and parents, said that qualities like honesty, discipline, hard work, respect and empathy form the foundation of good citizenship and helped young learners become responsible and capable individuals in a rapidly-changing world.

He said, “In today’s rapidly-changing world, acquiring knowledge is important but equally crucial is adopting right values and keeping away from social evils. True success is not just about scoring high marks but also about respecting parents, teachers, elders and understanding one’s duties towards society.”

The Speaker said that the government had introduced significant reforms in the education sector in the past three years, the results of which would be visible in the coming time. He added that the state government had decided to introduce the CBSE curriculum in nearly 100 schools from the next academic session. Eight schools of Chamba district, including one each at Chowari, Kakira and Sihunta in the Bhattiyat Assembly constituency, had been shortlisted for this shift. He announced that a Rajiv Gandhi Day-Boarding School would be opened at Thulel.

Pathania gave away awards to students, who had performed exceptionally in academics, sports and cultural activities. He announced Rs 31,000 for the school for organising the cultural programme and assured it that all its demands and that of local residents would be fulfilled in a phased manner.

Earlier, the Speaker inaugurated a new examination hall constructed at a cost of Rs 13.60 lakh at Government Senior Secondary School at Hatli. Students presented cultural programmes while Principal Kishori Lal presented the school’s annual report highlighting academic, sports and other achievements along with key demands related to development needs.
