More snowfall, rain expected from Dec 27

The state is likely to receive more snow and rain in the next couple of days. As per the weather department, widespread snowfall and rain activity is likely to commence in the state from the evening/night of December 27, which will continue till December 29. The peak of this precipitation will be December 28.

Light snowfall is likely over many areas, with a few moderate spells of snowfall as well, particularly over the high, mid and adjoining low hills during this period. There could be isolated snowfall activity on December 29 over the region. A few spells of light rainfall/snowfall is also likely over most of the tourist destinations including Shimla on December 27 and 28.

Meanwhile, cold wave, dense fog and ground frost conditions will continue in plains and the adjoining low hills of the state. Over the next 12 hours, light snowfall is likely at a few places in the districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul and Spiti and the higher reaches of Shimla, Kullu and Chamba.

There has been a marked fall in maximum temperatures at few places since Monday afternoon, where the maximum temperatures have dipped below normal by 5 to 7°C. Several places in upper Shimla and Kinnaur have received more than a half feet snow. Khadrala, in Shimla district, recorded the highest snowfall at 24 cm.
