MP Kashyap chairs meet to review projects

Emphasises timely completion of projects, directs officials to expedite work

Member of Parliament from Shimla Parliamentary Constituency Suresh Kashyap chaired the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting in Nahan on Friday. During the session, he reviewed the progress of various ongoing infrastructure and development projects in Sirmaur district under Central government schemes.

Emphasising the timely completion of infrastructure projects, the MP directed officials to expedite the works to ensure early benefits to the local population. He called for a coordinated effort among all stakeholders to accelerate the district’s development. Special instructions were given for the early completion of pending works under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Nahan, Paonta Sahib and Rajgarh.

He further stressed the importance of maintaining quality in Centrally sponsored development initiatives across the district.

Officials said under the Pradhan Mantri Adarsh Gram Yojana, 29 villages were selected from various development blocks in the district during 2020-21. Of these, 28 villages have met the prescribed criteria and have been declared model villages.

Providing updates on social welfare initiatives, it was reported that under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, Rs 8.18 crore was disbursed to 4,258 beneficiaries. Additionally, Rs 2.67 crore was spent to benefit 1,142 widows under the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme and 48 persons with disabilities received assistance under the Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme.

Regarding urban housing, the meeting was informed that 317 houses have been completed under PMAY (Urban) in Nahan, with 39 still under construction. In Paonta Sahib, 110 houses have been completed and 78 are under progress, while in Rajgarh, 62 houses are complete and 14 are being built. Under PMAY (Rural), 1,210 houses were constructed in 2023-24, with 173 still underway. In the current financial year 2024-25, 226 houses have already been completed.

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, 272 toilets have been built in Nahan and 146 in Rajgarh. As part of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, 11,961 LPG connections have been provided across the district.

Two panchayats — Kolawala Bhud (Nahan Assembly Constituency) and Koti-Padhog (Pachhad Assembly Constituency) — were adopted under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana. Since 2019, 38 development projects have been completed in these panchayats, while 12 projects remain under implementation.

Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Verma welcomed the MP to the meeting and assured timely completion of pending projects in coordination with department heads.

The meeting was attended by Paonta Sahib MLA Sukh Ram Chaudhary, Pachhad MLA Reena Kashyap, Zila Parishad Chairperson Seema Kanyal and both official and non-official members of the committee.
