Nurpur, July 23

The newly-elected Lok Sabha MP, Rajiv Bhardwaj, from the Kangra parliamentary constituency raised the demand to establish a ‘religious corridor’ in Kangra district. During his maiden address in the Lok Sabha yesterday, he emphasised on promoting tourism infrastructure in the Kangra-Chamba parliamentary constituency.

  • A ropeway for Dharamsala
  • Introduction of ‘backwater tourism’, on the pattern of Kerala, in the Pong and Chamera reservoirs
  • Modern trauma centres at Nurpur in Kangra and Bathri in Chamba districts

Bhardwaj demanded a ropeway for Dharamsala to take tourists into the lap of the snow-laden Dhauladhar ranges, the world’s closet snowline that offers mesmerising panoramic views.

Bhardwaj, who hails from Nurpur, also appealed to the Union Tourism Minister to introduce ‘backwater tourism’, on the pattern of Kerala, in the Pong and Chamera reservoirs, this according to him, will help in generating self-employment opportunities in Kangra and Chamba districts. He highlighted that the Kangra-Chamba region was replete with tourism potential which remained untapped for want of requisite infrastructure.

The Kangra MP also sought ultra-modern trauma centres for Nurpur (Kangra) and Bathri (Chamba).

He said there were no super-specialty health institutions in the region due to which accident victims were shifted to other hospitals in neighbouring states and most of the patients succumb to their grave injuries on the way.

He said with the opening of trauma centres, people of the Indora, Jawali, Fatehpur, Bhattiyat and Shahpur Assembly constituencies would be benefited.

Bhardwaj also raised the demand of converting the 96-year-old Pathankot-Jogindernagar narrow gauge into a broad gauge railway line.
