Municipal Corporation to conduct contour survey to ensure safe building construction in Shimla

The Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) is set to conduct a contour survey for an upcoming residential project to be constructed in the town. With this survey, the corporation aims to conduct scientific construction of buildings as well as drainages, ensuring their safety and avoiding any kind of risks to structures. The survey will help the corporation in identifying areas that have gentle slopes as well as the direction in which the water is flowing. It will also help the corporation in knowing the spots where drainage systems require strengthening.

A contour survey shows the height and shape of a piece of land by drawing contour lines that connect points at the same level. These lines help in understanding whether the land is steep or flat. Contour survey is considered very important for the construction, engineering, and land development as it helps in planning the design of the building and drainage among other things.

Talks regarding a residential area are ongoing. If successful, residential areas having multiple buildings will be constructed in the town. Land has been identified for the project. At first, demarcation of the land will be conducted. Following demarcation, a contour survey will be conducted to ensure safety of buildings.

Dr Bhuwan Sharma, Joint Commissioner, SMC said, “Talks regarding a residential area are ongoing. If successful, residential areas having multiple buildings will be constructed in the town. Land has been identified for the project. At first, demarcation of the land will be conducted for which preparations are underway. Following demarcation, a contour survey will be conducted to ensure safety of buildings. Survey will be conducted in a phased manner. After survey a contour map will be prepared.”
