The mutilated body of a newborn was found abandoned on the roadside near Tikri Nala under Pandoh police station in Mandi district today.

Locals spotted the body and immediately alerted the local panchayat, which then informed the police. A police team, accompanied by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit, rushed to the spot and took the body in custody.

The possibility of foul play has not been ruled out. Initial suspicion suggests the child may have been abandoned after birth.

SP, Mandi, Sakshi Verma, said that clarity on the reason for mutilation would be known after the FSL report was received.
