The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has awarded a project on Integrated Farming System focusing on the socio-economic uplift of small and marginal farmers to Eternal University, Baru Sahib, in Sirmaur district.
Neelam Thakur, assistant professor, and head, Department of Zoology, bagged this project worth Rs 8 lakh. “It will help in devising mechanisms to double farm income and also reduce environment degradation, furthering the university’s objective of helping the rural communities,” she said. “The judicious use of natural resources in view of the changing climatic conditions will be one of the key focus areas of the project. It will target six enterprises — dairy farming, vermicomposting, silage making, food processing, horticultural/agricultural farming and water harvesting — on about one hectare land,” she added.
