BJP national president and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda today travelled to Sainj, Pangliur and Baga in the Nachan Assembly constituency and Thunag in Mandi district to meet the families devastated by recent flashfloods. He interacted with survivors, offering words of comfort to those who lost everything.

Nadda consoled Pushp Raj and Tilak Raj, whose parents were swept away, and handed over kits containing daily use items such as rice, pulses, cooking oil, blankets, etc to them.

Nadda reassured the village elders of all help and said that the Central Government would make all efforts to ensure their long-term rehabilitation. He said that financial assistance, reconstruction grants and mental health support would follow in the coming weeks. For families, who had lost their breadwinners, interim relief payments had already been approved.

Nadda’s helicopter touched down in Sundernagar in the afternoon, where the Deputy Commissioner and disaster management officials briefed him on rescue operations. Over 350 stranded residents had been evacuated so far and temporary camps had been set up on school grounds and community halls, he was told.

Nadda directed the district authorities to ensure uninterrupted supply of ready-to-eat meals, drinking water and medical kits. He praised the collaborative work done by the Central and state governments and insisted that “bureaucratic delays will not stand in the way of saving lives.”

In Thunag, Nadda toured relief distribution centres. He asked officials to maintain an inventory and monitor distribution to prevent shortage or pilferage. He also reviewed plans for long-term shelter with prefabricated houses to be set up with solar lighting and sanitation facilities.

The floods had washed away portions of the connecting roads, landslides blocked several rural link roads and power poles were uprooted. Nadda said that the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had earmarked funds for the restoration of these lifelines.

Nadda said, “We are committed to walking alongside every affected person until normalcy is fully restored.” He outlined a three-phase recovery plan encompassing relief, reconstruction and resilience enhancements against future disasters.

Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur recalled his visits at the time of past calamities in other parts of the state. BJP state president Rajeev Bindal, Nachan MLA Vinod Kumar and other party representatives joined in pledging support to the victims of the nature’s fury.
