Nagesh nominated NAAC member

Prof Nagesh Thakur has been nominated as a member of the Bengaluru-based National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) for three years, a Joint Director, UGC, said in an official order. Nagesh is at present the Chairman of the Physics Department, HPU, and Dean of Engineering and Technology. He is also a member of the University Grants Commission and the Executive Council of the HPU. Vice-Chancellor Sat Prakash Bansal has congratulated Nagesh on his appointment.

Protest for UGC pay scales

HPU teachers continued their protest for the implementation of the new UGC pay scales due from 2016 for the 22nd day on Wendesday. Around 100 teachers attended a gate meeting and presented their views. They reiterated their demand that the government should announce the UGC pay scales for teachers immediately. They warned the government that if the pay scales were delayed any further, they would boycott examinations after a week.

Seminar on RTI Act

The University Institute of Technology (UIT), Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), organised a seminar on the RTI Act-2005 in Shimla on Wednesday. Prof Kulbhusan Chandel, Dean of Studies, HPU, was the chief guest of the programme while Parveen Saini, retired IAS officer and a former State Information Commissioner of Punjab, was the key speaker. The chairpersons, directors and Public Information Officers of the university participated in the programme. Saini emphasised on the importance and need of the RTI Act-2005. He said that the objective of the Act was to promote transparency and accountability in the working of the government and containing corruption.
