The long-pending construction of the alternative Nahan bypass via Banog–Dharkyari road is now being delayed only because of two unresolved gift deeds. Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh has directed senior officials of the department to prioritise the matter and ensure speedy resolution.
For decades, residents of Dharkyari village under Nahan panchayat remained deprived of a road and the demand for connectivity of nearly half a dozen villages grew into a major electoral issue in the Nahan constituency. Although a road was sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) with the collective efforts of leaders from both major political parties, progress stalled due to a dispute between the Army and civilians, leaving the bypass incomplete for nearly 15 years.
During his visit to Nahan this morning, a delegation from Dharkyari and Jabal Ka Bagh villages, led by MLA Ajay Solanki, met the Public Works Minister at the Circuit House here. Solanki informed that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has already sanctioned Rs 12.5 crore for the metalling of the bypass. He added that nearly 3 km of the stretch from Jabal Ka Bagh to Kanshiwala will be upgraded to make it suitable for bus movement.
PWD officials clarified that the only hurdle left is the completion of two gift deeds. Singh directed that the department concerned should initiate the mutation process without delay so that the gift deeds could be executed at the earliest. MLA Solanki assured that he would personally oversee the matter to ensure the process is completed quickly, paving the way for the long-awaited metalling work.
