‘Naksha’ launched for digital urban mapping
The Himachal Pradesh government has launched a pilot project, ‘Naksha,’ in Kangra district to modernise urban land records using digital technology and drones. Initially, the project will be implemented in Palampur Municipal Corporation, where drones will survey urban areas to create accurate maps.
Presiding over a meeting with officials from Palampur and Dharamsala municipal corporations, Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa highlighted the project’s significance in protecting property rights and preventing fraud. The initiative aims to create a comprehensive geospatial database, improving transparency in land records and aiding legal documentation.
The ‘Naksha’ project integrates aerial and ground surveys with advanced GIS technology to streamline land administration. It will also facilitate infrastructure development, urban expansion and transport planning. By reducing delays, the initiative will support housing projects and sustainable urban growth.
Additionally, the programme will assist the disaster management department in enhancing preparedness and response. The digital system will help curb land-related fraud and build public trust in urban land governance.
