A 40-km Nalagarh-Lakhanpur-Jhirra-Chandigarh road being laid jointly by the Himachal and Punjab governments will give a major boost to industrial connectivity. The road will facilitate commuters travelling on the Nalagarh-Chandigarh route and will provide direct connectivity to the industrial belt of Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh, which houses more than 90 per cent of the industry of Himachal.
While 19 km of the road falls in Himachal, the remaining lies in Punjab. Parbarser Singh, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD), Nalagarh, said that four bridges were being constructed on the 19-km road in Himachal. “While two bridges have been completed, a slab was being laid on the third. A sum of Rs 1.5 crore has been received from the Industries Department for the construction of the bridge.”
He said the remaining work comprising metalling and tarring of the road would be undertaken after the state government provides more funds. The road would provide connectivity to an upcoming medical device park at Lakhanpur and a defence park at Jhirra, said Industry Department officials.
