Nalwar Fair ends with grand shobha yatra in Sundernagar

The seven-day-long state-level Nalwar Fair 2025 concluded yesterday with a grand shobha yatra in Sundernagar, Mandi district. The vibrant festival, which began on March 22, witnessed enthusiastic participation from across the region.

The closing ceremony was attended by Rajesh Dharmani, Minister for Urban and Rural Planning, Housing Management, Technical Education, and Vocational Industrial Training, as the Chief Guest. He led the Shobha Yatra from the PWD Rest House to Nagoun Stadium and also honored the winners of the Wrestling Competition. Former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sohan Lal Thakur and other dignitaries also joined the celebrations. Dharmani released a commemorative memento highlighting the fair’s cultural significance. The Wrestling Dangal, a major attraction, drew thousands of spectators over two days.

The wrestling competition saw Somveer from Rohtak win the prestigious Suket Kesari title, with Ashish from Chandigarh as the Runner-Up. Somveer received Rs 51,000, a guzr (traditional gift), and utensils, while Ashish was awarded Rs 41,000 and similar prizes.

In the Suket Himachal Kumar category, Dheeraj from Bhatwada secured the title, with Bharat Bhushan from Bhatwada as the Runner-Up. Dheeraj received Rs 31,000, while Bharat Bhushan was awarded Rs 25,000, both receiving traditional gifts.

The Suket Kumar under-17 competition saw Shakhveer Yadav from Sundernagar emerge as the champion, with Siddharth from Dhwal as the runner-up. They received Rs 15,000 and Rs 11,000, respectively, along with gifts.

The Nalwar fair was a grand success, celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage and sportsmanship. The wrestling competitions added to the event’s charm, making it a true reflection of tradition and physical prowess in Himachal Pradesh.
