National-level painting, essay competition held in Mandi
The Indian Cultural Fund, Mandi chapter, organised a national-level painting and essay competition yesterday at BJ Government Senior Secondary School. The event witnessed participation from approximately 70 students from 10 schools in the city. It aimed to showcase students’ views on local festivals, traditions and customs through essays and paintings.
The theme for the competition was ‘local festivals, customs, and traditions’, wherein participants were required to write a 200-word essay. The event was presided over by Harish Kumar Sharma, retired Chief General Manager of SJVNL, as the chief guest. He distributed certificates to the participating students and addressed the gathering.
In his speech, Sharma encouraged the students to connect with their heritage and traditions. He urged them to dream big and work tirelessly to achieve those dreams, emphasising that success comes from hard work and perseverance. He also stated that focusing on preserving our heritage and values is essential for the progress of both the country and individuals.
Anil Sharma, co-convenor of the Indian Cultural Fund, Mandi chapter, highlighted the importance of such programmes in educating children about Indian art, cultural heritage, festivals and traditions. He shared that the committee organises such events annually and remains committed to inspiring the younger generation to preserve and promote Indian culture.
He also informed that the entries submitted in this competition will be sent to the national headquarters in Delhi for evaluation and 100 regional winners and 10 national winners will be declared.
The event was attended by members of the Indian Cultural Fund, Mandi chapter, including Mahesh Puri, Dr Harish Behl, Rajeev Kumar, Ajay Sehgal, Neeraj Sharma, Indu Sharma, Nishi Kapoor and teachers from various schools.
