National Milk Day was celebrated at St Bede’s College to honour the Father of White Revolution, Dr Verghese Kurien, on Monday. An elocution competition was held in the seminar room. The topic of the competition was “The Role of Dr Kurien in Nation Building”. The event was graced by dignitaries from Amul Corporation and principal, St Bede’s College, Nandini Pathania. The judges for the competition were Abhishek Sharma, Madhu Parmar, and Shramja Munjal. Out of the 12 participants, five competitors bagged the prizes. Pratishtha Thakur stood first, Kriti Verma and Astha Sharma shared the second position and Kirti Sharma stood third. Ishita Chugh and Aayushi got consolation prizes.
ABVP’s new national organising secy
Ashish Chauhan from Rohru has been appointed the national organising secretary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). The decision was taken at the 65th four-day national convention of the ABVP, which concluded in Agra on Monday. Chauhan, who is associated with the ABVP since 2003, has also served as the national general secretary of the ABVP during 2017-19 and held several posts at the college, university and state level. At present, he is also the general secretary of India-China Youth Dialogue. Former ABVP president Dr Nagesh Thakur has been inducted as a special invitee, Hema Thakur and Preeti Negi, Dr Nitin Vyas, Dhandev Thakur, Komal Bekta and Ankit Chandel will be the members. Preeti Negi will be in Nagpur and Kaul Negi the state ABVP organising secretary for Himachal.

Career counselling
A one-day career counselling and drug de-addiction programme was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Kasumpati. Students were given important information about career counselling. Labour and employment officer Seema Gupta told the students about the employment avenues, while officials from Tourism, Animal Husbandry, Kaushal Vikas Nigam, Agriculture and Industries Departments also interacted with the students and gave them useful tips.
NCC week at govt school
The NCC week is being celebrated at Government Senior Secondary School, Raja ka Talab, in Fatehpur under the aegis of 2HP (I) Company NCC Dalhousie Cantonment. NCC cadets staged a nukkad natak on drug abuse at Nerna panchayat.The cadets will campaign against female foeticide and create awareness on cancer and HIV-AIDS.
SFI submits memorandum
SFI activists of Shrikhand boys hostel, HPU, submitted a memorandum to the warden, demanding that the gates of the hostel be opened after 10 pm. The students said in March, the decision to shut the doors at 10 pm was taken and they were told that it was being done for the time-being. The students said examination was round the corner and the doors should be opened so that the students could study in the library.
