Jagriti Thakur, a research scholar of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, has been presented the Fertilizer Association of India (FAI) Golden Jubilee Award for doctoral research in fertilizer usage. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, a gold medal and a citation. Thakur has completed PhD from the Department of Soil Science and Water Management, and is presently working as a senior research fellow at the university. She developed efficient irrigation and fertigation schedules for adoption in high-density apple orchards, raised on clonal rootstocks in the state. She also established schedules for use of fertilizers and scarce irrigation water through drip fertigation. This was undertaken under the Himachal Pradesh Horticulture Development Project's sub-component ‘Improving nutrient and water productivity for sustainability and profitability in fruit production in Himachal Pradesh’ in her doctoral dissertation. It was funded by World Bank.

Workshop on script writing

School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Shoolini University organised a two-day workshop on 'Script writing for feature films and short films'. The session was taken by Harjeet Singh, Assistant Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala. He emphasised the importance of music, location and time while writing for feature films. He said the script had to be written in the present tense. He added that background location and symbolism must be keep in mind for screenplay writing. Vipin Pubby, Director and HOS, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, said with the increasing popularity of social media content, screenwriting had become an essential tool for journalism students. Students from various schools in the region also attended the workshop. Harjeet said reading was important for any writer. He encouraged the students to read books.

Extend fee submission date: ABVP

The ABVP submitted a memorandum to the director, International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning (ICDEOL), demanding that the last date to deposit the fee, which was November 15, should be extended without charging late fee. The ABVP said several days leading to November 15 were non-working, owing to festivals, and many students could not deposit the fee before the scheduled last date. The ABVP said the last date should be extended to November 30, and no late fee should be charged as everyone was facing financial trouble because of the pandemic.

Govt to review decision on schools

The state government will take the decision to reopen schools on November 23, based on the feedback from the school management committees and the parents teachers association. The government had shut the schools till November 25 after many students and staff tested Covid-positive in two schools of Mandi. The schools were opened only for the students of Class IX to XII.
