The NCC Air Wing Kullu unit successfully completed a challenging 300-km cycling expedition from Kullu to Shimla, aimed at inspiring young people to pursue careers in the Indian Armed Forces. Organised in collaboration with NCC Group Shimla HQ and the state Department of Higher Education, the expedition passed through Banjar, Jalori Top, Anni, Narkanda and Theog before culminating in Shimla. The cadets conquered the formidable 10,800-ft Jalori Pass, navigating steep climbs and rugged terrain. Their feat highlighted endurance, courage, determination and discipline — the core qualities of a career in the Armed Forces. A total of 33 members, including officers, staff and cadets, participated in the expedition.

A standout feature of the initiative was its strong motivational and educational outreach. The team was led by Wing Commander Kunal Sharma, Indian Air Force, Commanding Officer, 1 HP Air Sqn NCC Kullu, who served as the chief resource person throughout the journey. He interacted with students across 15 schools and colleges, motivating more than 3,400 young learners to explore opportunities in the Army, Navy, Air Force and various defence entry schemes such as NDA, CDS, AFCAT, Agniveer and NCC Special Entry.

He stressed that such expeditions not only build physical stamina and mental resilience but also foster leadership, teamwork, patriotism and a spirit of adventure — qualities essential for success in the Armed Forces. The expedition also worked to raise awareness against drug abuse among youth, promoting a healthy, disciplined and constructive lifestyle.
