NCC cadets living examples of discipline, patriotism: Dharmani

The cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) are living examples of discipline, patriotism and service to society, said Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, while addressing cadets at the closing ceremony of the 10-day ‘Shatudri Vandan’ sailing expedition at Luhnu Ghat, Bilaspur, on Friday.

The special camp, organised under the aegis of NCC Directorate Chandigarh, saw participation from 70 cadets, 46 boys and 24 girls, from Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, at Luhanu Ghat on the banks of Govind Sagar Lake near Bilaspur town.

Congratulating the cadets, Dharmani said such camps strengthen youth physically, mentally and intellectually, and prepare them to become catalysts of positive social change. He announced that from the upcoming session, students of polytechnic and pharmacy colleges in Himachal Pradesh would also be inducted into the Naval Wing of NCC. Discussions with Group Commander Aditya Verma had already been held, and both the state and central governments would bear the expenses, he added.

Commanding Officer Sajan Kumar said the objective of the expedition was to instil discipline, leadership, self-confidence and teamwork. She added that the ability to maintain balance in strong winds, battle water waves and move forward with patience in adverse circumstances further strengthened the courage and discipline of the cadets

The cadets described the sailing experience as a unique opportunity to learn patience, courage, discipline and coordination while braving strong winds and rough waters. The expedition, covering 318 km along the Govind Sagar Lake, included night halts at Bilaspur, Jagatkahana, Raipur and Nakhrana.
