Revenue, Horticulture and Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi called on Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Raj Bhavan today, accompanied by Tribal Development Council members and Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana. During the courtesy call, they discussed critical issues affecting the state’s tribal regions, particularly Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.

One of the key matters raised was the long-pending demand for the grant of nautor land to tribal residents. Negi, who has persistently taken up the issue, had earlier met the Governor on April 18 regarding the same. As per sources, nearly 20,000 applications for nautor land allotment are currently pending with the government.

The state Cabinet had already approved a proposal to allot nautor land to the people of Kinnaur and forwarded it to the Governor. However, implementation depends on the Governor suspending the Forest Conservation Act under Schedule V of the Constitution. The move is considered crucial for land-scarce tribal populations in Kinnaur, where arable land is extremely limited due to geographic constraints.
