Nepalese kingpin of drug racket held from Narkanda

Accused made financial transactions worth Rs 3.4 cr since 2022

The Shimla police have arrested the kingpin of an opium drug racket from Narkanda in the district.

The accused was identified as Ravi Giri (41), a native of Narayanpur village in Dang district, Lumbini Pradesh, Nepal, who was living in Narkanda, the police said today.

On July 3, the police had arrested two Nepal natives with 1.5 kg of opium near Narkanda after which an investigation was started in the case. On the basis of some inputs and ground reports, a police team headed by SI Ankush of Theog police station, nabbed the gang kingpin from Narkanda.

Theog Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Siddharth Sharma said the accused had been booked under Section 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and would be produced in court.

He said it had come to light that since 2022, the accused had made financial transactions around Rs 3.4 crore. “All his illegal movable and immovable assets will be identified and seized accordingly,” the DSP added.
