New Shimla DAV shines bright at literary festival

In a spectacular celebration of literary flair and youthful creativity, New Shimla DAV bagged the best school trophy at the inter-school literary festival hosted by Loreto Convent Tara Hall School, Shimla. The event was organised in collaboration with Chitkara University and The Tribune, drawing participation from 12 of Shimla’s premier educational institutions.

The festival commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a melodious group song presented by the host school’s choir, setting the stage for a day brimming with eloquence, expression, and enthusiasm.

Schools that took part in the literary contests were: Loreto Convent Tara Hall, Auckland House School for Boys, Chapslee School, Convent of Jesus and Mary, DAV-New Shimla, DAV Senior Secondary School, Lakkar Bazaar, Dayanand Public School, Sacred Heart Convent School, Saraswati Paradise International Public School, Shimla Public School, St. Edward’s School and St. Thomas School.

In the Hindi debate, Bhoomika from New Shimla DAV was declared the best speaker, while Avantika Sood from Loreto Convent Tara Hall was honoured as the promising speaker. The Hindi poetry recitation saw Sanvi Verma from the Convent of Jesus and Mary take the top spot. Arjun Rajput of St. Edward’s School and Ashmita Singh of New Shimla DAV secured the third position.

Amulya, representing New Shimla DAV, stood first in slogan writing, followed by Divyanshi Sharma from Sacred Heart School and Arnav Thakur of St. Edward’s School.

The English declamation event crowned Asmit Verma from DAV, Lakkar Bazaar, as the winner. Aaradhya Sisodia from Loreto Convent Tara Hall and Arushi Thakur of Chapslee School secured the second and third positions, respectively.

In the turn coat competition, Palchin Agnmo from DAV-New Shimla was adjudged best speaker, while Savi Sektoo from Sacred Heart School earned the promising speaker title. The dramatisation contest witnessed Nyasa Kimta from DAV-New Shimla clinch first place. Dhruv Sharma from Shimla Public School and Ishaan Azad from St. Edward’s came second, while Udbhavi Banga (Loreto Convent) and Vaishnavi Sharma (Convent of Jesus and Mary) shared third spot.

Ritu Sharma, Principal of the host school, encouraged students to continue reading and nurturing literary habits amidst the digital age. Kamayani Bisht, Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru College of Fine Arts, graced the occasion as Chief Guest, while Dr Sanjeev Sahni, Vice-Chancellor of Chitkara University, was the guest of honour.
