Kangra: NIFT meet on handicraft on August 5, 6

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Kangra, will organise its first-ever national conference on “Indian handloom and handicraft: sustaining cultural heritage” with the idea of uniting academics, craftspersons, industry practitioners and research scholars in conversations on the way forward for crafts. The event will be held on August 5 and 6.

This event will be conducted offline on the NIFT, Kangra, campus. The event will be attended by Laila Tyabji, Sunita Shankar, Pankaja Sethi and Priya Krishnamoorty. Sanchit Govil of Lal10 crafts will also attend the event. Chief patrons of the event are Shantmanu, DG, NIFT, and Aakash Dewangan, Director, NIFT, Kangra.

The conveners for the event are Dr Paramita Sarkar, Dr Babita Bhandari, Deep Shikha Walia and Kriti Srivastava, all assistant professors at NIFT. The event was conceptualised as a celebration of the NIFT’s 14th founding day on August 5 also to mark National Handloom Day on August 7 as well as part of the institute’’s ongoing celebrations for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
