No end in sight to staff strike, Wipro Enterprises to close Baddi factory

Wipro Enterprises has decided to close one of its factories at Baddi following a prolonged strike underway since December 2024. In a statement issued at Baddi this evening, the company stated, “At Wipro Enterprises, we have always prioritised building strong relationships within our community and ensuring our business operates profitably, responsibly and with integrity. Today, due to repeated disruptions and significant losses, including the ongoing strike since December 2024, we have made the difficult decision to close one of our factories at Baddi in Solan.”

A comapny official said, “Despite our efforts to sustain operations, this unit has become economically unsustainable. We want to highlight that our second factory at Baddi continues to perform well and remains a vital part of our business.”

The Wipro Employees Union, however, alleged that the staff had been coming to work regularly since December 2 ,2024, but on Saturday morning when they arrived at the company gate around 7 am, they were not let in and the security staff apprised them that the company had been permanently closed.

The union in a representation to the Chief Minister, Labour and Employment Minister and the Labour Commissioner said that to resolve the pending dispute, they had agreed to the terms of the factory management but the latter exerted pressure to withdraw all police cases registered against them without arriving at any understanding, which was unfair.

The company official said, “The decision was carefully considered and we are committed to supporting our employees and stakeholders throughout this transition, fully complying with all legal requirements. Our commitment to the region and its people remains steadfast and we will continue contributing to its growth in meaningful ways.” A labour dispute had been brewing between the company and the employees since months and it could not resolved amicably.
