Nomads get medicines in Hamipur

Anti-parasitic medicines were distributed among herds of migrant nomads of the state as they crossed through the district during the lockdown. The nomads (shepherds) rear goat and sheep, and move uphill after the winter is over in March and April, but this year their movement started late.

Over 19,620 animals, including sheep and goats crossed through the district. This livestock usually comes under attack of ectoparasitic infestation such as scabies, crab louse and pediculosis, and endoparasites, an anaerobic protozoan parasite that reproduces via binary fission and cats, dogs, goat and sheep.

Manoj Sharma, Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, said over 3,910 animals, including goats and sheep were treated for mouth and foot disease. Some of them were provided logistic support to reach their destinations.

The district administration provided over 864-quintal fodder to feed over 1,500 cows in 19 cow shelters in the district.

Deputy Commissioner Harikesh Meean said 6,312-quintal fodder has been brought from Punjab in the district so far. As many as 31,256 animals were provided health facilities in the district during the lockdown, he said.
