Shimla, July 3

Now, pregnant women will also be vaccinated against Covid in the state. The directions have come after the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare approved the vaccination of pregnant women stating that they should be informed about the risks of exposure to Covid-19 infection and the benefits of vaccination. A government spokesperson said that in order to help pregnant women take the decision to get vaccinated, the Health Department had directed district administrations to train and orient the programme staff, frontline workers and private medical professionals.

He further said pregnant women, who decide to get vaccinated should be helped in the process of registration by the staff of Health Department. In case of Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) in a pregnant woman, the AEFI committee should be notified in the districts. The committee should have obstetrician and gynaecologist, paediatrician or neonatologist, members of local FOGSI chapter and IAP, and frontline health workers properly trained on their role in AEFI surveillance.
