The Shimla district unit of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) staged a massive yet peaceful protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office in Shimla, raising strong objections over irregularities in various exams conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
The protesters demanded strict action against those responsible for the ongoing malpractices and urged the cancellation of all tenders awarded to the blacklisted company Eduquity. They also called for improved transparency, accountability and upgradation of technical infrastructure at examination centres.
Raising slogans against the SSC and the Central Government, NSUI activists expressed deep dissatisfaction with technical glitches, server failures, sudden exam cancellations and the arbitrary allotment of distant exam centres—all of which have caused inconvenience and mental distress to aspirants.
Shubham Verma, NSUI district president, said, “The future of lakhs of youth is being compromised due to the SSC’s repeated mismanagement. Awarding tenders to blacklisted firms is unacceptable and reflects sheer negligence.”
He added that the students not only face financial strain but also emotional stress due to the unpredictable nature of the exams. “Allocating centres in far-off regions is adding to their troubles,” he noted.
The NSUI has warned that if their demands are not met promptly, they will intensify their agitation across Himachal Pradesh, holding the authorities accountable for undermining the trust and future of the country’s youth.
