Nurpur-Baijnath train services to be restored from tomorrow
After partially restoring train services between Kangra and Paprola (Baijnath) and between Kangra and Jogindernagar railway stations, the Northern Railway is all set to restore its services on the remaining narrow gauge railway track between Nurpur Road and Paprola railway station on December 14. The Ferozepur Division of the Northern Railways on Wednesday undertook a successful trial run of a train with seven coaches.
Train services were partially restored between Kangra and Paprola (Baijnath) on September 26, and between Kangra and Jogindernagar railway station on October 18.
Locals’ agitation bears results
Residents of Nurpur, Jawali and Dehra sub-divisions in Kangra district had been demanding and agitating for complete restoration of train service for the past three months after partial restoration of the service by the Northern Railway

The train service had been suspended from Nurpur road to Baijnath railway stations on July 6 after heavy rainfall that triggered landslides at a number of locations on the rail track
After a successful trial run, the Divisional Railway authorities have released a timetable for restoring two trains (up and down) between Nurpur road and Paprola railway station for December 14. Earlier the railways had conducted a successful trial by running a rail engine from Nurpur road to Koparlahar railway station on November 27. Residents of Nurpur, Jawali and Dehra sub divisions in Kangra district had been demanding and agitating for complete restoration of train service for the past three months after partial restoration of the service by the Northern Railways. Kangra MP Rajiv Bhardwaj had also raised the issue in the Lok Sabha for strengthening the train service and converting the Pathankot-Jogindernagar narrow gauge to broad gauge.

This train service is the only cheapest and the most easy means of transportation for the residents of these villages. They have to pay bus fare six times more than the train fare to reach their destinations. The train service had been suspended from Nurpur road to Baijnath railway stations on July 6 this year after heavy rainfall that triggered landslides at a number of locations on the rail track. The track near Koparlahad railway station near Ranital in Kangra district had been badly damaged due to ongoing construction of the four lane project and huge debris had fallen on the track.
As per a press release of the Northern Railways, Ferozepur division, the time table of the two trains (up and down) will be - The first train (04700) will leave from Paprola at 6 am and reach Nurpur road railway station at 12 pm and train (04696) will depart from Paprola at 3 pm and reach at Nurpur road at 9.25pm. The second train (04699) will depart from Nurpur road at 6 am and reach Paprola railway station at 12 am and train (04685) will depart from Nurpur road at 2.30 pm and reach Paprola railway station at 8.20 pm.
These trains will pass through Majhehra, Panchrukhi, Patti Rajpura, Palampur Himachal, Sulah Himachal, Paror, Chamunda Marg, Nagrota, Samloti, Kangra Mandir, Kangra, Kopar Lahar, Jawalamukhi, Tripal Halt, Lunsu, Guler, Nandpur Bhatauli, Bariyal, Nagrota. Suriyan, Meghraj Pura, Harsar Dehri, Jawali, Bharmar, Balle da Peer, Larath and Talada stations in both directions.
