Nurpur ex-MLA Bakshi no more

Nurpur, December 7

Ranjit Bakshi (79), former Congress MLA of Nurpur, died at a private hospital at Jalandhar last night. He was admitted to the hospital two days ago after brief illness and he passed away last night.

Bakshi had represented the Nurpur Assembly constituency from 1996 to 1998 after winning the byelection. He was cremated at his native place Jassur, near here, today. His son Akhil Bakshi lit the pyre. A large number of people from all walks of life attended the funeral.

Forest minister and local MLA Rakesh Pathania, former minister Kewal Singh Pathania and former MLA Ajay Mahajan attended the cremation. Bakshi is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. —TNS
