A Nurpur native was arrested for an alleged bid to run over two cops with his car over a ‘personal grudge’, officials said on Monday.

The Nurpur police registered an FIR and also seized the vehicle involved in the incident.

Officials said the accused identified as Surjeet Kumar of Sadwan village, allegedly attempted to run over the police post in-charge, ASI Bhajan Singh, and constable Rahul, who were standing at a check post on Sunday evening.

Following the incident, police launched a search operation to apprehend the accused.

Nurpur DSP Vishal Verma stated that a case was registered under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the BNS at the Nurpur police station based on the complaint filed by ASI Bhajan Singh.

The accused held a grudge against the Sadwan police post officials after his shop was inspected a few days ago, said the DSP.

He added that the police had conducted a medical examination of the accused and found him to be intoxicated.
