Nurpur police bust interstate drug smuggling racket, 2 nabbed with 103gm heroin

Tightening the noose around the drug mafia, the Nurpur district police busted an interstate drug smuggling racket by arresting two Amritsar residents trying to enter Himachal Pradesh with a consignment of narcotic drugs. Acting on a tip-off, the police set up a special naka last night at the interstate excise border in Bhadroya, under the jurisdiction of the Damtal police station.

The police searched a car at the naka and seized 103.07gm heroin (chitta) from the possession of the occupants — identified as Yaadvinder Singh of Bahini village and Malkiat Singh of Chheharta in Amritsar. The police arrested the duo, allegedly accused of being interstate drug smugglers active in the district. A case under Sections 21-25-29 of the NDPS act has been registered in the Damtal police station.

In this connection, Nurpur SP Ashok Ratan told The Tribune that the police had launched a special anti-drug drive in the border district. He added that the police had so far registered 35 NDPS Act cases in the last five months and recovered 762.89gm heroin, 10.579 kg charas (hashish) and over Rs 1.20 crore drug money from smugglers.
