A timely intervention by the Nurpur police saved the life of a married woman who attempted suicide by consuming poison in a forest near her in-laws’ house in Jonta village.
The incident came to light after the woman’s mother, Sandesh Kumari, a resident of Khushinagar, informed the police that her daughter had consumed a poisonous substance. The woman, married for six years and a mother of one, was reportedly under severe distress.
Acting swiftly, the police traced her location through her mobile phone. A rescue team, led by Sub-Inspector Ajaib Singh, found her unconscious in the forest and rushed her to Nurpur Civil Hospital in a police vehicle. Thanks to prompt medical care, she was declared out of danger.
Nurpur SP Ashok Ratan stated that the woman, in her statement, accused her husband of financial neglect and harassment, particularly concerning their child’s upbringing. The police have filed a report of domestic violence and submitted it to the Child Development Project Officer, along with the woman’s medico-legal certificate (MLC), for further investigation.
Currently, the woman is staying with her mother while the case is being investigated. The police assured that they are treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
