Japan International Cooperation Agency’s (JICA) chief project director (CPD) Sameer Rastogi, met members of various self-help groups (SHG) associated with the JICA at Jana village in the Naggar block today. He interacted with members of the five SHGs and inquired about their problems. Regan SHG and Veerbhoomi SHG are working in the handloom sector, while Lakshmi SHG is engaged in weaving and Thakur SHG is practicing bee-keeping.
The CPD said, “The Himachal Pradesh JICA forestry project has given a boost to self-employment in the handloom sector and improved the economy of the people of rural areas.” He said various SHGs are preparing Kullvi shawls, pattus, stoles, pattis, caps and other traditional garments. He added that the handloom and weaver products being prepared through various SHGs associated with the forestry project are getting a new identity.
