Officials mull 9 new panchayats in Nurpur block

Ahead of elections of the panchayati raj institutions (PRIs) scheduled this year, a proposal for creation of new gram panchayats in Nurpur development block has recently been submitted to the state government through Kangra district panchayat office. The local authorities of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development have proposed nine new panchayats, which are likely to be carved out from six big panchayats. Nurpur block already has 51 gram panchayats.

As per the proposal, existing Gurchal panchayat will be split to create new panchayat Sanoh with a population of 910; Bharmoli panchayat will be split to create Bhaleta with a population of 1,308; Rit Uprli panchayat will split to create Lakhanpur with a population of 973; and Chruri panchayat will split to create Mehatta with a population of 957.

Pundar panchayat will be split to create Sunjta panchayat with s population of 1,764, Sadwan panchayat will split to create Lakhwal with a population of 1,607; Koot panchayat with population of 839 from Baranda; Kehrna panchayat with a population of 1,239 from Aghar; and Dhaneti Garlan panchayat will split to create Bhatolli Billian with a population of 1,081. The proposals for creating new panchayats have been prepared following public demands and requirements with an objective to reduce distance of their respective panchayat offices.
