Old Sanawarians reunite, young stars shine at 178th Founders Day
The day opened with the Annual Athletics Meet at the iconic Barne Field, featuring spirited contests between current students and old Sanawarians
The Lawrence School, Sanawar kicked off its 178th Founders Day celebrations. The historic campus buzzed with excitement as old Sanawarians from across India and abroad returned to relive cherished memories and reconnect with their alma mater.
The day opened with the Annual Athletics Meet at the iconic Barne Field, featuring spirited contests between current students and old Sanawarians. The chief guest, Zaffaullah Khan (Batch of 1965), an illustrious alumnus, urged students to treat such events as launching pads for athletic careers, while also reminding them of the discipline and perseverance that embody Sanawar’s ethos.
The athletic meet witnessed outstanding performances from students across four houses: Nilgiri, Vindhya, Shivalik and Himalaya. Notably, Shivalik House dominated the event with remarkable achievements. Mrinalini Gopalan set a new record in the U-12 girls high jump, while her fellow housemate Ashwary Kumar excelled in the U-13 boys category, creating three new records in long jump, 400m and 1,500m. Additionally, Saif ur Rehman from Shivalik House broke the long-standing U-16 boys long jump record. Damira Malik from Vindhya House also made her mark, setting a new record in the U-14 girls high jump. The winners were honoured by the chief guest in the presence of Headmaster Himmat Singh Dhillon, acknowledging their exceptional talent and dedication to sports.
Beyond athletics, the programme featured career counselling sessions for parents, a Special Assembly at the School Chapel for Jubilee Batches (1955, 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1995 and 2000) and a school concert for the visiting alumni.
