Presiding over a review meeting of the Animal Husbandry Department here today, he said focus must be on individual milk testing, real-time data management with web and mobile interface.

“Digitisation would ensure hassle-free and seamless operations of the milk procurement which would also go a long way in maintaining transparency,” he said.

The Chief Minister also instructed to ensure GPS-enabled route tracking and optimisation for efficient milk transportation.

Sukhu said the state government is strengthening the rural economy by providing remunerative prices to milk producers. “Himachal is the first state in the country to introduce minimum support price for milk procurement. Cow milk is being procured at Rs 45 per litre and buffalo milk at Rs 55 per litre,” he said.

Sukhu said the state government would spend Rs 161.52 crore for setting up six new milk-chilling plants and milk-processing plants in the state. “A state-of-the-art fully automated milk-processing plant is being set up at Dagwar in Kangra district with 1.5 lakh litre capacity per day expandable up to 3 lakh litres,” he said.

This plant will become operational in March 2026, benefitting the milk producers from Kangra, Una, Hamirpur and other neighbouring districts.

Animal Husbandry Minister Prof Chander Kumar was present at the meeting.
