One held for forging court documents to evade arrest

In a peculiar case, an accused named Devraj was arrested for forging court documents to avoid arrest after warrants were issued against him by the Kandaghat court.

Solan SP Gaurav Singh stated that on January 2, the record keeper of the civil judge’s court in Kandaghat filed a complaint at the Kandaghat police station. The complaint revealed that arrest warrants were issued on November 30, 2024, in two civil cases (Ramesh Kumar vs Devraj and Harish Kumar vs Devraj) with a due date of January 1.

The warrants were returned to the court with a non-service report and a forged order, dated December 17, claiming the warrants were canceled. However, no hearing was held on December 17, raising suspicions of tampering.

Investigations revealed that the warrants were served on December 28, 2024, by Jatog police in Shimla. To evade arrest, Devraj sent a forged cancellation order via WhatsApp to the Jatog police. Believing the document was genuine, the police returned the warrants to the Kandaghat court. Upon examination, the forgery was discovered.

Devraj was arrested by Kandaghat police last evening and booked under charges of forgery, forging electronic documents, and fraudulently using forged documents. SP Singh confirmed that Devraj was produced in court to seek his remand, and his prior criminal record is also under scrutiny.

This case highlights the misuse of technology in manipulating legal processes, emphasising the need for strict vigilance and verification of court documents.
