Onkar Sharma, Principal Secretary, Agriculture, has been appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, following the retirement of Ashok Kumar Sarial, who completed his four-year term on July 31. He will look after the new assignment, in addition to his own duties till the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor.
Sources said Governor Bandaru Dattatrya, who is the Chancellor of the University, had already issued the notification in this regard. Raj Bhavan sources told The Tribune that the Governor had appointed Onkar Sharma the VC of the HPKVV as per the provisions of Section 24, Subsection 5 of the HP Universities of Agriculture and Horticulture Forestry Act 1987.
Sharma is a senior IAS officer in the government of Himachal Pradesh of the 1994 batch. Presently, he is posted as the Principal Secretary, Agriculture, Revenue, Tribal Development. He is from engineering background, and has held various portfolios in the state. He belongs to Chamba.
