The initiative will help identify the causes of accidents in specific areas and facilitate quicker claims for the affected individuals or their families from the insurance agencies. Various departments such as the Police, Health, Transport and road-related institutions would participate in this initiative.
To control accidents and technically identify their main causes, the investigating officers will examine all aspects related to the accidents and upload their reports on the portal within a specified time. Based on the feedback from all departments, black spots will be identified across the region.
Additionally, compensation to the affected party under the Motor Vehicle Act will be expedited as the online system requires officials to submit their reports within a set timeframe. The implementation of this electronic detailed accident report is being handled by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the Union Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways. At present, the NIC is training various agencies across the country on this modern process.
At Rampur, a camp was organised to demonstrate how police can report details of the injured from the hospital, inspect the accident and record their findings on the portal, besides how technical officers can register the mechanical report of the damaged vehicle on the online portal.
Executive Regional Transport Officer Jaspal Singh said a one-day workshop was conducted on the IRAD and representatives of various departments were present to learn how to submit their reports on the portal after investigating an accident.
Sub-divisional level committees have also been formed, detailing the responsibilities of each member. These committees, headed by the respective sub-divisional officers, aim to identify the primary reasons behind frequent accidents.
NIC officer Ashwani Negi explained that the IRAD was developed at IIT-Madras, with the NIC being the implementing agency. It was now being implemented across the country, added the NIC officer.
The stakeholders, including the police, road construction agencies, transport, health and other related departments, are part of this initiative. After collecting the data, the reasons for accidents, any shortcomings, and areas with higher accident rates will be identified and efforts will be made to mitigate such incidents.
