Orange alert for heavy rain, snow from tomorrow
An orange alert has been issued for heavy to very heavy rain, snowfall from February 26 to 28 in the state. As per the weather department, fairly widespread rainfall/snowfall activity, accompanied by a thunderstorm and lightning, is likely to commence in the state from midnight tomorrow till the noon of March 1.
During this period, spells of light and moderate snowfall are likely at many places in Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur districts and in the higher reaches of Kangra, Chamba, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi and Sirmaur districts.
From February 26 to 28, there’s an orange alert for isolated spells of heavy rain/snowfall in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Mandi districts. There’s also a likelihood of isolated spells of very heavy rain/snowfall on February 27. Isolated spells of rain or snowfall are likely in Shimla and Sirmaur on February 27 and 28.
Isolated spells of heavy rainfall are also likely in Una, Bilaspur and Hamirpur districts on February 27 and 28 and in Solan district on February 28. A few spells of light snowfall, with one or two moderate spells, are very likely in most of the tourist destinations like Kufri, Narkanda, Manali, Solang valley, Dalhousie and Sissu and their adjoining areas. A few spells of light rain or snowfall in Shimla city and its adjoining areas are likely from the morning of February 26 till the noon of March 1.
Cold day conditions are likely to prevail in some parts of lower hills/ plains and mid hills of the state on February 26 and 27.
