In a determined effort to curb the illegal liquor trade, the State Taxes and Excise Department has registered 247 cases and seized over 10,500 litres of illicit liquor since April 1. Commissioner Dr Yunus said intensive enforcement drives are underway across the state, aided by district-level task forces specifically formed to tackle the issue.
Significant recoveries have been made from various regions, including Shimla, Baddi and Kullu. In July alone, officials seized 542.930 bulk litres of illicit liquor in the Southern Region (Shimla), 745.350 litres in the Central Region (Mandi) and 221.850 litres in the Northern Region (Palampur), along with 46 litres of lahan.
Since the beginning of the financial year, a total of 10,523 litres of illicit liquor and 21,630 litres of lahan have been seized and destroyed.
The department has urged the public to support its efforts by reporting any information related to the production or sale of illicit liquor. Citizens can do so via telephone (0177-2620426), WhatsApp (94183-31426), email (controlroomhq@gmail.com), or by contacting zonal commissioners of their respective regions.
