Overspeeding truck overturns in Dehra, driver, passerby killed

A truck loaded with tiles on the way to Nadaun overturned at Kaloha chowk, resulting in the death of two persons. According to police, the truck met with this fatal accident due to over speeding as the driver lost control over it. Truck driver Om Prakash (29) from Churu in Rajasthan and a local elderly woman Satyadevi (65), who was going to get milk on the roadside, died in this accident.

The truck was carrying tiles from Bikaner in Rajasthan to Bhadoli in Nadaun. Travelling all the way, it was now just 15 kms short of its destination. As soon as it reached Kaloha, the truck driver lost control and broke open the boundary wall built on the roadside and overturned. Unfortunately, Satyadevi, passing through the road, got hit by the truck. She was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital, Garli, where she succumbed to her grievous injuries.

Truck driver died on the spot. Rakkad police reached the spot and took both the bodies in custody. A case has been registered and investigation in the case has been initiated.

According to R P Jaswal, DSP, Jawalamukhi, mechanical investigation of this vehicle by an HRTC expert would help reveal the actual cause of the incident.

Eyewitnesses say that the accident could have happened due to sudden nap in the early hours. Rakshpal of Garli said that a major loss of life was averted as this truck just missed by a few feet a nearby house where a family was lying asleep.
