Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan said that weeklong International Shivratri fair will be inaugurated in Mandi by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on March 9. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla is set to be the chief guest at the event on March 15, the concluding day.

Famous Pahari, Hindi and Punjabi artistes will perform during the cultural evenings.

‘Lab on wheels’ to check food quality

  • The Shivratri fair will be telecast live on Facebook and YouTube.
  • Shopkeepers told not to play with the health of the people by selling substandard food items.
  • ‘Lab on wheels’ will be deployed for inspection of quality of food.

Addressing mediapersons here today, the DC said that performances by Hansraj Raghuvanshi and Kumar Sahil will be the highlight of the first evening. The following evening will see Mamta Bhardwaj, Laman Band and Ishant Bhardwaj enthralling the audience.

Sunil Rana, Arin and Arshpreet and Akhtar Brothers will take the stage on the third evening; Saregamapa Little Champ fame Payal Thakur, Geeta Bhardwaj and Shilpa Saroch will put up a show on the fourth evening, followed by A C Bhardwaj, Jassi Gill and Babbal Rai the next day. The last evening will be in the name of Anuj Sharma and state police orchestra ‘Harmony of Pines’.

During these shows, theme-based public awareness programmes will also be held daily.

“Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla will conclude the festival on March 15 after participating in the shobha yatra at Padal ground,” he added. “This time, Saras fair will also be organised during the Shivratri under the National Rural Livelihood Mission wherein sale of products manufactured by self-help groups of Himachal and other states will be encouraged. For this, more than 80 stalls will be set up in Indira Market,” he further said.

“There will be special attention to cleanliness for which adequate number of sanitation workers will be deployed. Arrangements have been made to stop the use of single-use plastic items and ensure proper management of waste,” he stated.

On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rohit Rathour and Additional District Magistrate Dr. Madan Kumar were also present.
